What Does Cloud Computing and Edge Computing Look Like in the Future?

For many organizations, cloud and edge computing are critical to maintaining their business operations during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Advanced functionality and infinitely increasing capacity are now synonymous with cloud computing. Everything from enterprise IT to mainstream technology is relying on cloud computing infrastructure to operate optimally. Going forward, cloud computing will play an integral role in supporting the application of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, Internet of Things, quantum computing, sd wan edge computing, and has become the backbone of the digital revolution over the past decade. Cloud computing technology is essential for organizations to work remotely, but it's just not expected to develop so widely and quickly.

1. What will happen in the future of cloud computing and edge computing?

The survey report pointed out that by 2025, edge computing service providers will lead the development of the ICT infrastructure market, while the edge computing market will grow exponentially. Germany will be the largest market for cloud and edge computing in Europe, while the US will be the main market globally.

There are many reasons for this, but ultimately, edge computing can empower organizations that cannot perform tasks in the cloud. Edge computing has some clear advantages when dealing with issues of low latency, connectivity, security or privacy, and the amount of data being transferred, making it difficult for businesses and individuals to afford service interruptions. Distributed cloud computing and edge architectures will increase the speed of data processing, reduce latency, and support the exponential growth of IoT and autonomous technologies such as mobile robots or self-driving vehicles in a connected world.

Hybrid models such as edge computing cloud will be driven by hyperscalers, while widespread deployment of 5G technology will play an important role in the new ecosystem for telcos and their service partners, especially since mobile edge computing can ensure extremely low latency. Instead of running on local infrastructure, its computing units are not deployed on-premises, but very close to communication towers.

Key industries such as edge computing real estate, edge computing healthcare, edge computing manufacturing, edge computing retail, shipping edge computing, edge computing government, and edge computing energy are all becoming digitized and connected. In this data-driven environment, organizations interested in operational efficiency can gain even more by moving their functions to the edge. In the edge computing energy efficiency sector, for example, adopting edge computing and industrial IoT solutions can allow organizations to optimize the performance of large-scale solar power generation systems, which is an important move for both grid operators and environmental organizations.

Edge computing positively impacts an organization's operations and services. As a result, edge computing is currently at the forefront of IT decision-making and is quickly becoming a growing market.

2. Rapid adoption and growth of cloud computing and edge computing

Cloud computing technology is the key to being able to respond to the epidemic and restore economic growth, so it has a significant impact in an agile and scalable environment. These signs are being reflected in today's market landscape. In 2021, the market size of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) in Europe (Italy, Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium), the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, China and India will increase compared to 2019 50% to 55% increase.

The software-as-a-service (SaaS) market size will also grow rapidly in countries around the world. In particular, by 2025, the US, UK and Europe are expected to triple, while India and China may quadruple.

In the U.S., the public and private hosted cloud and operational technology (OT) infrastructure and edge markets are expected to grow by 60%. The public cloud and private cloud market is expected to reach 183 billion euros, and the operational technology (OT) infrastructure and edge market is expected to reach 19 billion euros.

These exponential growths clearly demonstrate that edge computing is not only here to stay, but is intrinsic to innovation in the long run. Cloud computing transformation and the development of IT infrastructure are necessary and, if done well, can enable innovative business models, new products and services. In the long run, these ultimately contribute to the transformation of the overall economy. Building on cloud computing and edge computing is the best option, and it will play a vital role in reshaping the IT architecture that supports global industry innovation in the coming years.
